Tabasco made my day!

After a relaxing grooming session with the babies, they followed me over to the panels to check on the big horses (who were all too busy grazing). Tabasco lined himself nicely along the panel so I couldn't resist hopping on.

I got on his back but kept my foot and hand on the panel... at first. He didn't say boo with that so I put my full weight on him and reached around with both hands so I could scratch his neck/chest better. I climbed off the way you would with a broke horse and he just stood there, so I shimmied back up the panel and climbed back on.

He didn't bat an eye at my weight on his back, and he didn't move a muscle as long as I was scratching him. Shoni of course is right there as well and not too happy Tabasco is getting all of the attention. She started rubbing her lip on my leg and trying to grab my pants. Silly mustangs. I decided I better not press my luck and climbed down again.

Mom wasn't as thrilled when I told her since I didn't have a spotter to make sure nothing happened, and she was even less thrilled that I didn't have a halter or any tack on him. Oops, I'll try to do better next time!

No pictures of it today but I might try again tomorrow night or Saterday and maybe get some then. What a great day! :)

Another Romp

Over the weekend we let all five horses into the field to graze together. They ran a few laps around the field before settling in to eat.

Other than that it was pretty uneventful, so nothing new or exciting to report... just lots of photos!

After a few hours I lead Sundance back into his pen hoping that Sweetie and Pebbles would follow. Instead I had all four following. They got themselves wound up again and started another running streak.

We finally did it!

We had a big weekend. Saturday we had family coming over later in the afternoon for the 4th, so in the morning we let the babies out to graze for brunch.

They got to run and stretch their legs.

They raced.

They showed off.

And Tabasco got to play on his "mountain".

On Sunday we let the babies out again and let them graze for about 5 minutes. Then we opened the gate and let the big horses out with them. This is the first time all five horses have ever been in the same pen without being separated by fencing.

Tabasco of course had to make all of the girls squeal, then went back to grazing.

Pebbles surprised me the most. I think she's quite takin' with Shoni. She pretty much bee-lined-it over to Shoni but was trying to be sneaky about it so she would stop after a few strides and start grazing.

Finally she made her way over there and they grazed next to each other. Then Shoni walked away and Pebbles followed.

All five of them were in a cluster at one point. Then Shoni (who is a lot like her human) got a little claustrophobic with the others in her bubble and trotted off a little ways to be in the open.

Then Dad was out turning hay with the tractor and the horses got all excited and started running.

The big horses ran back into their pen, and the babies followed. They ran from one side to the other, and at one point Sweetie shocked us by jumping the poo pile. Sorry no picture of that (darn it!), I was busy trying to pick my jaw up off the ground. We've had Sweetie for 15 years and have never seen her jump.
